Victor Dahdaleh Foundation supports new website for Mesothelioma Research Network
A new website has been launched for members of the Asthma UK – British Lung Foundation’s Mesothelioma Research Network (‘MRN’) found at https://mrn.blf.org.uk/.
Since its launch in October 2017, membership of MRN has grown to include over 190 researchers and clinicians worldwide working on mesothelioma and is funded by the Victor Dahdahleh Foundation.
Commenting on his Foundation’s support for MRN website, Victor Dahdaleh said:
‘The aim of Mesothelioma Research Network is to bring together researchers and clinicians working on mesothelioma and seed new collaborations, drive progress and leverage more funds into mesothelioma research.
‘The new website is designed to help this happen more effectively, with the ultimate aim of accelerating the timeline for new treatments reaching people with mesothelioma.’
The MRN website aims to:
- Bring researchers working in mesothelioma together to share their expert knowledge, skills and resources and learn from one another
- Help members of MRN stay in touch with what mesothelioma research is happening globally
- Attract and keep the interest of researchers and clinicians in mesothelioma
Pleural mesothelioma is a devastating cancer caused by inhaling asbestos fibers. The outcomes for people living with the disease remain very poor and new prevention, diagnostic and treatment strategies are desperately needed.
The MRN has stimulated more than 20 new research collaborations since its launch, with nine research papers published and five learning events completed. Funding has been awarded to MRN members to support new collaborative pump-priming research projects.
In a 2019 MRN members survey, 81% of respondents felt that being a member of the MRN helped them in their work as a researcher/health professional and 96% of respondents would recommend being an MRN member to a colleague.
