Dr. Kara Thompson is the inaugural Director of the Victor and Mona Dahdaleh Institute for Innovation in Health at StFX
Dr. Kara Thompson has been announced as the inaugural Director of the Victor and Mona Dahdaleh Institute for Innovation in Health at St. Francis Xavier University for a three-year term.
The Institute at StFX, targeted at promoting healthy populations in rural Nova Scotia, has been made possible by a C$15 million gift from Dr. Victor and Mona Dahdaleh, through the Victor Dahdaleh Foundation. It is the largest single private donation in StFX’s history.
The gift will be used to help create the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Hall, which will house the Victor and Mona Dahdaleh Institute for Innovation in Health, a much-anticipated incubator for health research on the StFX campus expected to be transformational for the region and beyond.
Dr. Thompson is widely recognized across Canada and in Nova Scotia for her research contributions on alcohol policy and substance use in young adulthood.
She holds a position as an Associate Professor in the Psychology Department at StFX. Furthermore she was recently appointed as the Research Chair in Substance Use Policy & Prevention within the Dahdaleh Institute for Innovation in Health and the Brian Mulroney Institute of Government, also both at StFX.
